Sophie von Hellermann (born 1975, Munich) is a London-based painter whose immersive, large-scale works draw on German Romanticism and Expressionism, merging lyrical figuration with architectural space. Educated at the Royal College of Art, she has developed a distinctive practice in which painting operates as environment, unfolding directly onto walls and ceilings. Von Hellermann has exhibited internationally at institutions and galleries including the Centre Pompidou, Greene Naftali, and Vilma Gold, and has presented notable solo exhibitions at Firstsite and Vilma Gold. Her work is held in permanent collections, including Hudson Yards’ Tak Room, and she continues to produce site-specific projects that engage history, narrative, and place.
